abstract

  • As reviewed by M. K. Stenstrom and C. G. Grieves, two operating parameters are considered with respect to carbon in the combined activated sludge-powered carbon (AS-PAC) system: carbon dosage and carbon concentration in the aeration tank. Both of these are related through sludge age and the hydraulic retention time; however, no simple procedure or expression has been defined to relate effluent concentration to sludge age and carbon dosage. This study aimed to model the AS-PAC process and to determine any difference in performance parameters with respect to the AS process, as simultaneously investigated by H. R. Fuentes, in the presence of 4,6 dinitro-o-cresol. Study model development and results are discussed.
