abstract

  • Pressure drop measurements have been carried out for three-phase concurrent flow of simulated nuclear waste in a horizontal pipe. The test section was a 2.14 meter long stainless-steel pipe with an inner diameter of 0.025 meter. The fluid consisted of a mixture of water, Gibbsite powder, and air. The parameters that have been investigated include Gibbsite concentration, air and water flow rates, and bulk temperature. Experimental results indicate that pressure drop of the three-phase flow of simulated nuclear waste in a horizontal pipe is sensitive to the superficial velocity of air and solid concentration. The measured data have been correlated using the Lockhart-Martinelli (1949) method.
