This study analyzes the effect of internal heat generation on the convective heat transfer characteristics of laminar flow combinations in a circular, multi-passage tube maintained under uniform wall temperature. Fluid in each flow section is assumed to have different but arbitrary uniform heat generation densities. Also both flows are assumed to be hydrodynamically and thermally fully developed. The temperature fields in the inner and outer passages are obtained analytically from the energy equation by employing the successive approximation method. Based on these temperature fields, the expressions of Nusselt number on the outer surface and on the internal dividing surface corresponding to different heat generation combinations are derived. The curves representing Nusselt number values for typical values of heat exchanger number are plotted against the dimensionless radius of the separating surface. The behavior of these curves are also discussed.
