The effect of the natural convection on the heat trnasfer has been explored. The Reynolds number was varied from 500 to 6000 corresponding to Dean numbers of 150 to 1800 with different heat fluxes. Distilled water was used as the working fluid. It is found that for the larger pipe diameter the effect of natural convection are so significant that the fully developed condition cannot be achieved in most of the cases. It is revealed that the temperature distributions periodically oscillate along the coil due to the natural convection. But, for the vertical orientation, the temperature oscillations decay quickly along the coil and approach fully developed condition.
