abstract

  • Combined forced convection and thermal radiation in the thermal entrance region of a parallel plate duct with axial heat conduction and thermal radiation is numerically studied in this paper. The fluid is treated as a non-gray, absorbing, and emitting medium with a fully developed velocity. The weighted sum of gray gases method (WSGG) is utilized to approximate the non-gray carbon dioxide gas. The method of moments is applied to model the radiative heat transport process. With a coordinate transformation, the governing equations are then solved numerically. The major controlling parameters for the combined process for non-gray gas are identified as: inlet and wall temperature, T "SUB e" and T "SUB w" , conductive-radiative parameter, N, Peclet number, Pe, and the pressure path-length, 2ap. Results are presented for the several values of these controlling parameters for both heating and cooling processes. (A)
