An intermediate morphotype exists between these 2 species. The 3 forms constitute a cline whose variable morphology is related to gradients in environmental properties. Chamber undercutting (shelf angle) and inflation are the most important characters used to discriminate samples containing different test morphologies, and correlated best with nutritive organics and fine grain size. -from Author
