abstract

  • Hurricane Andrew was the first major hurricane to pass over Dade County since 1926. The hurricane Andrew has generated approximately 2.4 million tons of structural waste with an additional 0.5 million ton estimated to be generated during rebuilding and repair of the buildings. This paper presents a method used to estimate the amount of structural debris generated in relation to the extent of structural damage caused by the hurricane based on the structural composition of the residences destroyed.
