This paper presents an implementation of HDLC based serial data communication using Java language. A program has been developed to provide an insight about how HDLC can be used to perform data transfer on a serial basis and to analyze HDLC data packets being transferred from one machine to another. This practical approach is different from that of the traditional approach, which only shows the different layers of a protocol without actually using or implementing it.
