Software engineers have asserted the necessity of a standard for software productivity metrics. The author proposes a scheme for the measurement of software productivity which satisfies varied requirements of any such measure as well as being flexible enough to accommodate the demands and desires of different types of people involved in a software project. Theoretical development of the proposed scheme is included to give a flavor of productivity calculations.
