abstract

  • A high temperature sodium/stainless steel heat pipe with multiple heat sources and sinks was fabricated, processed and tested. Experimental results from tests performed both under vacuum and in air are presented. The startup behavior of the heat pipe from the frozen state was investigation for various heat loads and input locations, with both low and high heat rejection rates at the condenser. No startup evaporator dryout failures were found, although the heat pipe was sonic-limited during startup in air.
