abstract

  • We have calculated the driving point impedance of a thick metal-insulator-metal barrier. The model used consists of the electron current comprising of the drift, diffusion and displacement terms together with Poisson's equation. By taking the Laplace transform of this set of equations the poles and zeros of the device have been obtained from which a small-signal a.c. circuit model can be built. It is found that at least two RC Foster cells are necessary to model the metal-insulator-metal barrier at high frequencies.
