abstract

  • This paper describes the computer simulation of various sizes and shapes of clear- cuts and the qualitative impact of each treatment on deer habitat using the habitat analysis system described by Mead et al (1981). It was found that smaller clear-cuts with shapes that maximize the perimeter in relation to the area are judged to produce better habitat for deer in this region. The importance of such predictive tools in relation to recent legislation and research trends is discussed. © 1984 Canadian Space Agency.
