This paper provides an overview of a joint effort to construct three bridges using high performance steel in the state of Nebraska. The project will be conducted in three phases. In Phase I, a simply supported bridge will be designed based on 50 ksi steel; however, construction will utilize 70 ksi materials. Phase II of the project will involve optimizing design and construction of a two span continuous steel girder bridge using 70 ksi steel. Phase III of the project will include the construction of an innovative steel bridge using a new innovative superstructure configuration and high performance steel.
