Dr. Kate Semidey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and the Director of Pediatrics and practicing Pediatrician at UHI CommunityCare Clinic, a free community clinic for the underserved in Miami, Florida. After pursuing undergraduate work in Biochemistry and Neuroscience at the University of Florida, she attended medical school at University of Florida College of Medicine. Her training then brought her to Miami where she completed her residency in Pediatrics at Nicklaus Childrenâs Hospital. She joined the faculty of Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in 2016 where she teaches medical students in pediatric clinical skills, the art of Pediatrics and importance of the social determinants of health. Her particular area of interest is in reducing health disparities in underserved pediatric populations, particularly non-English proficient patients, and inspiring the next generation of physicians to pursue careers that include caring for the underserved. She is also is the Director of the Panther Cub Pediatrics Pathway to Medicine Program, a program that functions to provide URiM pre-medical students clinical, research and volunteer experience in order to become competitive applicants to medical school. Beyond the university, she is the President of Miami Pediatric Fund, a non-profit organization that provides funding and support for medical services to Miamiâs children in need.
