Carlos Sarmiento is a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor at the School of Architecture at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida. He has taught design studios at FIU since Fall 2023. As a licensed architect in Florida and New York he also manages his own practice.
Professor Sarmiento advocates for the integration of advanced technologies within creative disciplines, identifying architecture as the optimal field for exploring cutting-edge technical and aesthetic applications. His current research focuses on artificial intelligence and performance-driven design analytics.
Prior to teaching at FIU and starting his own practice Carlos was a Senior Associate at Perkins Eastman, one of the largest firms in New York City. He has worked on projects in New York, Florida, and around the world: ranging from apartment renovations to university buildings and infrastructure ranging from housing, classrooms, sports facilities, bridges, utility infrastructure, and support buildings. Thanks to his global network he has partnered with some of the most distinguished individuals in their respective fields. He studied at the University of Miami and the Architectural Association in London
