biography

  • Carlos A. Salgado is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He is the director of medical services at the FIU Center for Children and Families. He joined the College of Medicine in November 2017 and previously served as the chief of educational programs. Furthermore, he is the founding program director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Citrus Health Network in partnership with Florida International University.

    Dr. Salgado is board certified in general psychiatry, child-adolescent psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He received his training at the Mayo Clinic and Yale University.

research interests

  • As a clinician-educator, his scholarly work has focused on child and adolescent forensic psychiatry, psychotropic medication use in child welfare populations, healthcare disparities, wellness in clinical learning environments, and graduate medical education development and management.
