biography

  • During my 22 years of experience, I have worked in primary care, inpatient, emergency and palliative care services. My continued passion for providing effective medical treatment and preventative care has driven me to explore advances in medicine, education and patient wellness in these fields. As a physician, it is important to have the knowledge and skills to treat acute emergent illnesses, promote prevention through wellness coaching and help transition through the stages of life. As a professor, it is my duty to share my knowledge and skills with the next generation of medical professionals, helping them to become well-rounded, empathetic and exceptional physicians. I have further accomplished these goals as an assistant professor at HWCOM.

My experience has reinforced my belief that every individual is entitled to healthcare and that access should not be limited to the walls of a hospital or clinic. I have been fortunate to participate in various community outreach efforts, using media and public speaking events to inform and educate the Hispanic community- both locally and nationally. Recently, I have been appointed as FIU's HWCOM's representative for the Board of the Dade County Medical Association which strives to safe-guard the physician-patient relationship and optimize a beneficial agenda in Tallahassee.

In addition to my medical career and patient advocacy, I manage HWCOM's Faculty Group Practice as the interim medical director. This role offers an opportunity to work collaboratively to improve quality, enhance optimal medical care and gain recognition in our community. Furthermore, I am a member of the committee which oversees the clinical branch our recent affiliation with Baptist Health.

research interests

  • As a primary care physician, I am interested in menopause and the female brain, the health disparities in diabetes care and the higher incidence of postural orthostatic hypotension in the population.

I am interested in the relationship between menopause and mental health issues, such as depression and cognitive decline. I would like to investigate interventions to support mental well-being and cognitive function during and after menopause, including lifestyle modifications such as diet, exercise, and holistic approaches.

I would like to study the effectiveness of community-based programs in promoting diabetes prevention and management and evaluate the impact of social support networks on improving adherence to treatment plans. This would also analyze the disparities in diabetes prevalence, access to care, and health outcomes among different socioeconomic and ethnic groups.

Finally, I find that there is a higher prevalence of POTS in the younger female population in my clinic. I would like to examine the underlying causes and risk factors associated with this syndrome.
