biography

  • Dr. Ian Nisonson was born in Montreal, Canada and moved to New York City at age 10. He was educated in New York- The Bronx High School of Science, Columbia University- College, Medical School, and Ultimately, Urological Residency in Presbyterian Hospital under John K. Lattimer, MD. There, he also did research in infectious disease with the use of an electron microscope.

    He entered private practice in Miami, FL, on the staff of Baptist Hospital of South Florida.
    Dr. Nisonson became active in the American College of Surgeons­President of the Local Chapter, Governor of the Florida Chapter, and Member of the Professional Liability Committee (16 years).

    He was also chosen to be the Editor-in Chief of Dade County Medical Society's monthly journal- "Miami Medicine" (3 ½ years).

research interests

  • His interests are Palliative Care (volunteer in Baptist Hospital since 2009; Autism (Co-Director of Annual Conferences since 2002)); CME executive committee (since 2004); and Committee on Clinician Stress, Burnout, and Wellness.

    He is also very interested in the use of literature and poetry as an educational tool for teaching medical students about the humanity of interacting with patients.
