biography

  • Dr. Erasmo Alvarez is an exercise physiologist and physical therapist with over 25 years of experience in exercise science, orthopedics and sports medicine.

    He brings to the position more than 25 years of experience in private practice having worked as an exercise physiologist for the Miami-Dade Police Training Bureau and as a sports/orthopedics physical therapist for Baptist Health Doctors Hospital & Memorial Health Systems U18 Sports Medicine.

    Dr. Alvarez is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Physical Therapy at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences where he teaches orthopedics/sports medicine and provides physical therapy for FIU Athletics.

    His particular areas of interest are injury prevention, periodization programs, sports physical therapy and dance/music medicine. Since 2005, he has provided expertise in the field of physical therapy at multiple hospitals including Memorial Healthcare System, Memorial Miramar Hospital, and Baptist Health Doctors Hospital.

    Dr. Alvarez is a licensed Physical Therapist in the State of Florida, Certified Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation & Emergency Cardiac Care Provider, and active member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

    He is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine Department of Physical Therapy, University of Montana School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Science, and University of Florida College of Medicine.

    He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education degree in Learning Design & Performance Technology at Florida State University.
