Dr. Alvarado is the Director of the Spanish-Language Journalism Masterâs program. He is an Associate Professor of Journalism and Communication, and functions as the Spanish-language editor of the South Florida Media Network. Additionally, Dr. Alvarado co-chairs the Journalist & Editors Annual Workshop in coordination with the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center, and the International Forum of Health Journalism, together with FIUâs Global Health Consortium.
Dr. Alvarado is a fellow of the Scripps-Howard Journalism Entrepreneurship Institute, and a trained educator at the Solutions Journalism Educators Academy.
An Emmy award-winning TV writer, he served as business news reporter and producer at CBS Telenoticias and later was editor in chief for ZDNet Latin America, as well as producer and copy editor at Univision.
Dr. Alvarado is a published author of several books including âEvolving Realities of US Hispanic Mediaâ, and âMexicanos al Grito de Guerra. Undocumented immigrants in the US Armed Forcesâ.
A prolific writer on global and regional affairs he has been published by US Spanish-language most important publications, including El Nuevo Herald, La Prensa de Nueva York, La Raza, La Voz de Phoenix, among others.
