The Department of Neuroscience of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is the first multidisciplinary department in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine to bring together clinicians, educators and scientists who share a common mission and vision of pursuing advances in education, clinical practice and basic and applied research of the nervous system in its continuum from health to disease with the evidence based treatment methodologies taught in a quality, cost efficient and patient safe environment. The major strength of the Department of Neuroscience is its commitment to a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration within the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and with all disciplines involved in neuroscience research throughout Florida International University. This commitment is the keystone for our vision of being a leading basic science and clinical academic institution in South Florida focused on maintaining a margin of excellence in the education of our students, the interdisciplinary basic and clinical research initiatives, and the services we provide to the community we serve. In collaboration with our clinical colleagues throughout South Florida community and affiliated facilities our students will experience all clinical and technical aspects of all the neuroscience disciplines. We encourage all student participation in research opportunities that not only focus on clinical issues but encourages initiatives that take advantage of the excellent basic science and other clinical divisions within Florida International University. Vision and Goals We will be the leading academic neurosurgical program in South Florida focusing on maintaining a margin of excellence in the practice of neurosurgery, clinical research and the education of our medical students in the fundamentals neurosurgery.
