Mission Statement To advance the teaching and learning, discovery and healthcare programs at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, and to promote the health of the South Florida community. Vision Statement The Medical Library is committed to the mission of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University, to provide quality, affordable medical education and to educate physicians who are culturally sensitive to South Florida's diverse demographics. In pursuing this, we envision a Library that is recognized for: Quality in the selection and management of knowledge-based biomedical resources Collaboration and participation in developing and providing learning experiences. Innovation in the effective use of relevant information and educational technologies. Partnership and creative contribution in bringing knowledge-based information to the points of patient care, learning, and discovery Leadership in promoting the health of the South Florida community through resource support and service. Commitment to the satisfaction of each library user Guiding Principles The library's primary clientele are the College's students, faculty and staff. As a unit of Florida International University, the Medical Library collaborates with the University Libraries in supporting university programs. As a publicly funded unit of the State of Florida, the Medical Library collaborates with other medical libraries in supporting and promoting the health of the state's citizens. The Director of the Medical Library reports to the Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. The Medical Library's budget is provided by the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. The Medical Library maintains a highly motivated team of professional medical librarians and support staff members. The medical librarians are faculty members who participate in teaching, research and service. The development of the Medical Library's collection resources and its services is planned and carried out through a collaborative effort of Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine faculty, students, and medical librarians. The Medical Library participates in relevant resource sharing and mutual support organizations in the state and nationally.
